Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN)

Short Description:

The Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN) is a regional network of civil society organizations that works to empower civil society and improve the legal and financial environment in which it operates. It focuses on ensuring civil society’s active participation in democratic processes and policy dialogue at national, regional, and European levels. Youth organizations are an integral part of its mission, especially within advocacy for participatory democracy and enabling civic space.

Geographical Scope:
Balkans and Southeast Europe – covering Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia

Key Activities:

  • Monitoring and advocacy on enabling environment for civil society (Civicus Monitor, Civic Space Reports)
  • Policy analysis and recommendations for national and EU institutions
  • Regional and national advocacy campaigns
  • Capacity building, peer learning, and networking among civil society actors
  • Implementation of the Monitoring Matrix for Enabling Environment

Implementing Organization:

  • BCSDN Secretariat, based in Skopje, North Macedonia
  • The network currently includes 14 member organizations from 10 countries in the region
